The Parkside Hotel & Spa General Manager Trina White Honoured at the 2026 Impact Sustainability Travel & Tourism Summit

Victoria, BC, Feb. 4, 2026 /CNW/—The Parkside Hotel & Spa's General Manager, Trina White, has been recognized with The IMPACT Award at the 2026 IMPACT Sustainability Travel & Tourism Summit for her outstanding leadership in sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship.

"Trina White's recognition at the IMPACT Sustainability Travel & Tourism Summit is incredibly well‑deserved. She has a genuine passion for strengthening our community and making sustainability a real, everyday priority in hospitality. Anyone who's worked with Trina knows how thoughtful, steady, and collaborative her approach is. We're proud to see her contributions recognized, and even prouder to have her leadership shaping the future of tourism in our region," said James Adams (EVP & CFO Destination Greater Victoria – owners of the IMPACT Sustainable Travel & Tourism Conference).

The IMPACT Awards celebrate individuals and organizations demonstrating exceptional commitment to advancing green business operations and fostering positive tourism development. White's recognition highlights her two-decade career championing sustainability practices that have positioned The Parkside Hotel & Spa as an industry leader in responsible hospitality.

"I am truly humbled to receive this recognition," said White. "My commitment to sustainable tourism began early, during my years as a hiking and adventure guide, where I developed a deep connection to nature and a lasting respect for the landscapes we are so fortunate to share. That foundation has guided my career in hospitality and my work at The Parkside Hotel & Spa, where sustainability is not a checkbox but a daily practice."

White continues, "From championing responsible operations to achieving meaningful certifications alongside an incredible team, this work has always been about long-term impact. To be recognized for this journey is an honour, and it reinforces my commitment to advocating for tourism that protects our environment while strengthening our communities."

Under White's leadership since 2009, The Parkside Hotel & Spa has achieved remarkable sustainability milestones, including reaching a 92% waste diversion rate, earning Biosphere Certification in 2022, and becoming Beyond Green's first urban hotel worldwide. The hotel is also a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, aligning operations with global climate science and a shared commitment to reduce emissions and achieve Net Zero before 2050. Through a partnership with Veritree, Coastal Kelp and the Sechelt First Nations, The Parkside helps restore kelp forests in British Columbia by planting one kelp for every stay and ten kelp when guests opt out of housekeeping. In 2025, The Parkside expanded the Happy Trails map series by partnering with Sierra Club BC to create a new map highlighting local ecosystems, offering guests walkable, bikeable, and day-trip options to explore and appreciate the region's natural beauty.

White's influence also extends beyond The Parkside Hotel & Spa. She co-created a green committee within the Hotel Association of Greater Victoria in 2018, currently co-chairs the Destination Greater Victoria Sustainability Committee, and serves as an associate professor at Royal Roads University, teaching sustainability theory to future hospitality leaders. In 2023, she was named Hotelier of the Year by The BC Hotel Association.

The Parkside Hotel & Spa continues to set the standard for sustainable urban hospitality, proving that environmental responsibility and exceptional guest experience can thrive together. For additional information and hotel photos, please visit The Parkside Media Centre

This milestone is both a reflection of where we’ve been and a signal of where we’re going.”

Record-breaking 2025 sees 28 million visitors boost Toronto’s economy by over $9 billion
Strong demand from domestic and overseas markets show resilience amidst global volatility

Toronto—A record 28.2 million visitors came to Toronto in 2025, generating a record $9.1 billion in spending, with 37 per cent of spending coming from the U.S. and international markets, according to Destination Toronto. Generating nearly $13.5 billion in economic impact, the $9.1 billion in direct spending exceeded the previous year’s record by 4 per cent, reinforcing tourism’s role as one of the city’s most important export sectors. The daytrip and overnight visitation results are revealed in a report published today by Destination Toronto.

“Against a backdrop of shifting trade policies, tariffs and economic uncertainty, Toronto solidified its position as a top global destination,” said Andrew Weir, President and CEO of Destination Toronto. “Our visitor economy showed strong resilience, as Toronto has what travellers and meeting planners are seeking — compelling experiences paired with a warm welcome.”

International arrivals were the fastest growing segment of tourism to Toronto last year, rising 8 per cent to 1.4 million visitors, led by growth from the U.K. and Germany, up 12 and 10 per cent respectively. To spur the growth of international visitation, Destination Toronto increased Toronto’s visibility in the U.K., Germany and Mexico in 2025 along with the vital U.S. market, advancing the city’s global tourism strategy and positioning the city for further growth in 2026.

Domestic visitation remained the largest segment at 25 million visitors, increasing 3 per cent as Canadian travel to the U.S. declined sharply and more Canadians traveled within their own country. The U.S. market was the second largest segment with 1.9 million visitors, down 6 per cent from the previous year.

“Visitors add to the vibrancy of Toronto, supporting local economies and contributing to communities across the city,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “Toronto’s dynamic neighbourhoods, rich cultural offerings, globally-inspired food scene and major events and festivals continue to draw visitors from around the world. With the FIFA World Cup 2026™ coming to Toronto, we’re excited to welcome the world and showcase everything our city has to offer.”

Toronto remains Canada’s most-visited destination and one of the top urban destinations in North America, supported by the city’s diverse and vibrant urban experiences.

“Visitors to Toronto leave a large economic footprint, spending billions of dollars in the city, and then exploring beyond Toronto in destinations like Niagara, Muskoka and Ottawa. Whether they
visit Toronto for leisure or for business or to attend a meeting, Toronto’s visitors spend $2.2 billion and support thousands of businesses and jobs in other parts of Ontario,” said Mr. Weir.

Major Meetings and events
Major meetings and events (multi-day events with more than 1,000 attendees) are a core pillar of Toronto's visitor economy. In 2025, Toronto hosted 74 major meetings with an estimated 378,000 delegates, a 51% year-over-year increase, and generating $982 million in economic impact.

Beyond direct spending by organizers and attendees, major meetings play a critical role in helping the city attract new investment, trade, and talent to its key economic sectors, such as life sciences, technology, AI, manufacturing, and finance. In 2025, Destination Toronto and its partners secured new business that will bring 70 major meetings and events to Toronto in future years, estimated to deliver over 370,000 attendees and $973 million in economic impact.

“In addition to the direct spending by meeting organizers and attendees, these events also strengthen Toronto's position as a global hub for life sciences, tech, AI or finance. To grow our local and regional economy, it is essential that Toronto hosts the largest and most influential meetings in these sectors and be seen as a key place for global business to convene, attracting new investment, trade and talent,” said Mr. Weir.

Some of these key sector meetings that will meet in Toronto in 2026 include the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation 46th Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions, Rendez-vous Canada, 2026 Poultry Science Association Annual Meeting, Corporate Event Marketing Association Summit, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity & Metabolic Disorders World Congress 2026, IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering (QCE) and the Joint Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis and European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis 2026.

The largest event in 2026 is the FIFA World Cup™. Toronto is one of 16 host cities, with six matches, FIFA Fan Festival™ - Toronto, and celebrations planned for locals and fans who travel to Toronto to be part of the excitement. The tournament will place the city in the global spotlight for billions of viewers worldwide.

Cayman Islands Reports Record-Setting December and Strong Visitation Growth in 2025

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands—The Cayman Islands closed 2025 with record-breaking December visitation and continued positive momentum in stayover arrivals supported by strong airlift capacity, robust performance in key markets, and notable gains from Canada and the United States.

Historic December Performance

December 2025 delivered a historic result, closing the year with 54,830 stayover visitors – the highest December in recorded history and a 5.3% increase year over year. The destination also saw 148,489 cruise passenger arrivals for the month; a 10.4% increase compared to December 2024.

Total visitation for the month (stayover + cruise) reached 203,319, an increase of 9.0% over December 2024.

Hon. Gary Rutty, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism praised the sector’s performance in 2025 highlighting the destination’s strategic partnerships.

“It is truly encouraging to see such strong growth in our stayover arrivals in 2025. The Cayman Islands continues to stand out from our competitors as a premier destination, and these results reflect the dedication of our tourism industry and our airline partners who continue to invest in our islands.

As we look ahead to 2026, we will continue to focus on strengthening our partnerships, enhancing our tourism product, and expanding airlift so that the Cayman Islands remains top of mind for travellers around the world.”

Source Markets

The United States

The United States remained the Cayman Islands’ largest source market in 2025 with 370,093 stayover visitors, an increase of 2.7% year over year. December showed particularly strong performance with arrivals up 4.8% compared to the same period in 2024.

The increase was driven by travellers from the Midwest and South regions with notable increase in visitors from major urban centres including Chicago, Dallas–Fort Worth, Miami–Fort Lauderdale, and Houston. This growth can also be attributed to increased airlift from Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Chicago and Minneapolis as a result of the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism’s strategic engagement with airline partners.

Canada

Canada delivered a standout performance in 2025 recording 7.1% growth year on year. Canada became the first market to surpass 2019 levels, underscoring its resilience and strong travel intent by the Canadian visitor.

The destination set Canadian monthly visitation records in March, July, September, November, and December, supported by a 9% increase in airline seat capacity. The introduction of Porter Airlines service from Toronto and Ottawa in December along with expanded capacity from Air Canada and WestJet, contributed significantly to this growth.

United Kingdom, Ireland & Continental Europe

The UK & Ireland saw steady performance in 2025, welcoming 15,402 visitors, up 3.1% year over year. December was particularly strong, recording 2,017 visitors, the second-highest monthly total ever, a result of CIDOT’s investment in the UK and Europe via leading global trade shows like World Travel Market (WTM) London and IBTM World in Barcelona, Spain.

Continental Europe ended 2025 with 5,784 visitors, a decrease of 6.6% compared to 2024. However, December showed a promising rebound with arrivals up 4.2% year over year, reversing the downward trend seen earlier in the year. Growth in December was led by Italy and supported by positive growth from Eastern Europe.

Latin America

Latin America finished 2025 strong with a 3.0% increase over 2024. Growth was strongest from South America, which was up 9.5% year over year. December arrivals represented an 8.8% increase compared to December 2024, driven by Honduras, Brazil, and Argentina.

Flight Capacity

A significant contributor to the destination’s 2025 performance was increased airlift across major markets culminating in six new North American routes launched in December.

Total inbound seat capacity for the month reached 88,014 seats, representing a 16% year-over-year increase.

Notable increases in air seat capacity were recorded from Miami, Chicago, Washington DC, Ottawa and Toronto.

Looking ahead, airlift for January–April 2026 is projected to grow by 18.1%, with 358,512 inbound seats—the strongest first‑quarter outlook in recent years. This increase is expected to support continued visitation growth during the peak winter and spring 2026 travel periods.

Accommodation Performance

In 2025, the destination’s room inventory increased by 119 bedrooms to 8,475 with the increase driven by condos and villas entering the destination’s short-term rental pool.

Looking forward to 2026, the destination is set to increase its accommodations stock by approximately 500 bedrooms with the opening of One|GT and Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman Resort & Spa.

Hotel performance remained strong throughout 2025 with global hotel intelligence firm, STR Inc. recording a 2.8% increase in the destinations average daily rate (ADR) and a 3.2% increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR) compared to 2024.

Commenting on 2025’s performance, Mrs. Rosa Harris, Director of Tourism emphasised the impact of international marketing, industry engagement and strategic airlift development on visitation.

“2025 was an exceptional year for the Cayman Islands, not only because of our record-breaking December results, but due to the consistent demand we saw from our key markets throughout the year.

Our investment in global marketing, travel trade engagement, and public relations—across the U.S., Canada, Latin America, the UK, and Europe—continues to yield strong returns. Canada’s record-breaking year, in particular, reinforces the importance of innovative PR initiatives, targeted outreach, and close collaboration with our airline partners. We are especially proud of the confidence shown by our carriers, who expanded service and introduced new routes that created meaningful opportunities for growth. With robust airlift projected for early 2026, we are well positioned to continue this positive momentum.”

Canadian Dollars Go Further in Las Vegas: Circa, The D and Golden Gate to Honor $1 CAD as $1 USD Now through Aug. 31
Canadian Travelers Get Instant Spending Boost at Three Downtown Las Vegas Resorts

Las VegasAt a time when exchange rates have made U.S. travel significantly more expensive for Canadians, downtown Las Vegas hotels Circa Resort & Casinothe D Las Vegas and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino are launching a new “At Par” commitment that will treat Canadian dollars as U.S. dollars across select gaming, hotel and beverage offerings now through Aug. 31, 2026.

The initiative gives all Canadian travelers and locals an immediate financial advantage, eliminating conversion stress and reinforcing downtown Las Vegas as a guest-first destination built on value, accessibility and fairness.

For assets, click here.

Under the At Par program, eligible Canadian guests receive $1 USD in value for every $1 CAD spent, regardless of daily exchange rates. Available across these three downtown Las Vegas properties, the effort removes one of the biggest financial barriers to U.S. leisure travel and makes it easier for Canadian visitors to focus on what matters most: entertainment, hospitality and fun.

“Canada has always been a part of my story, so I feel a deep connection to our Canadian visitors here in Las Vegas,” said Derek Stevens, owner and CEO of Circa, the D and Golden Gate. “My father went to the University of Toronto, and I was raised in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where our home looked straight across the Detroit River toward Windsor. Growing up, we could literally hear Canada – especially during Toronto baseball games – and that stayed with me. I loved crossing over for places like Tunnel Bar-B-Q, Don Cherry’s and Tim Hortons, and my lifelong love of hockey is part of why we created BarCanada downtown as a place to celebrate that culture year-round. Those experiences shaped how I think about welcoming Canadian guests. At Par is about honoring that connection and removing unnecessary barriers, making sure Canadian visitors feel just as welcome downtown as they always have, without worrying about exchange rates, fine print or doing the math at the cage.”

How Canadian guests can benefit from the At Par program:
  • Gaming Offers: Canadian guests may redeem up to $500 CAD in slot promotional play, treated at full U.S. dollar value, by visiting Club One at Circa, the D or Golden Gate and presenting a valid Canadian passport or government-issued ID. Slot play is available on participating machines at each property, with standard exclusions.
  • Hotel Offers: Canadian guests staying at Circa, the D or Golden Gate will receive the At Par rate at check-in, paying the same number shown in U.S. dollars, charged directly in Canadian dollars, with no exchange rate applied. Canadian citizenship must be verified with a valid passport or government-issued ID. The At Par hotel offer applies to room rates only and may be used for unlimited stays during the promotional period.
  • Beverage Offers: The At Par program also extends to select beverage venues, including BarCanada at the D Las Vegas, a hockey-forward sports bar paying tribute to Canada, as well as Overhang at Circa and Bar Prohibition! at Golden Gate. Eligible Canadian guests may redeem At Par beverage pricing multiple times per visit upon verification of Canadian identification.
Launching ahead of peak summer travel and a packed international sports calendar, At Par underscores downtown Las Vegas’ continued focus on attracting Canadian travelers through compelling, value-driven experiences. Located in the heart of downtown Las Vegas, Circa, the D and Golden Gate continue to lead with innovative, guest-first initiatives that pair bold ideas with authentic hospitality. Canadian guests do not have to be staying at Circa, the D or Golden Gate to participate in this promotion.

Tourisme Montréal and the Palais des congrès de Montréal confirm a wave of major conventions in the years ahead

More than 100,000 room nights already secured and over $100 million in economic benefits

Montréal/CNW/Tourisme Montréal and the Palais des congrès de Montréal announce that, over the past few months, a significant series of major international and North American conventions has been confirmed for the coming years, reinforcing Montréal's position as a key hub for business tourism. These business events represent more than 100,000 room nights and economic benefits estimated at close to $100 million.

"Behind every confirmed convention are years of work, relationship building, strategic planning and an exceptional level of mobilization by our teams and partners. It is this rigour that allows Montréal to remain a destination of choice for business tourism on the international stage. By attracting major conventions, we are laying solid foundations for business tourism and creating a sustainable base for Montréal's visitor economy," said Mylène Gagnon, vice-president, sales, convention services and membership at Tourisme Montréal.

Montréal strengthens its calendar of major gatherings

Among the recently confirmed conventions, all to be held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, are the World Science Fiction Society, which will bring together approximately 4,000 delegates in 2027, as well as the Canadian Labour Congress, with 3,500 delegates expected in 2032.

Several events benefited from the support of Destination Canada through the CBF program (convention business fund), including:

  • the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer annual meeting in 2031 (6,000 delegates)
  • the Orthopaedic Trauma Association annual meeting in 2030 (2,700 delegates)

These confirmations are complemented by major recurring conventions, including that of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, whose annual event alternates between Vancouver and Montréal. The Montréal editions, held in odd-numbered years, each welcome close to 2,000 delegates and have been confirmed through 2035.

"Tourism is a powerful and sustainable economic lever for Québec. At a time when market diversification and international competitiveness are essential, business events provide a tangible and immediate response. By attracting large-scale conventions, we are investing in a form of collective wealth that supports the economy, innovation and Montréal's long-term appeal," said Emmanuelle Legault, president and chief executive officer of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

Lasting benefits

Beyond their economic impact, these conventions play a strategic role by stimulating the knowledge economy and fostering innovation. Each event helps strengthen Montréal's international reputation as a centre of expertise while enriching its social, scientific and professional fabric.

Of the twelve conventions confirmed in 2025, five are in the life sciences sector, an area of excellence for Montréal. This strong representation further cements the metropolis's position as an international hub for high-level scientific exchange.

Continued international recognition

The metropolis continues to rank at the top of global standings for hosting business events, notably those of ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) and UIA (Union of International Associations), confirming for a ninth year its position as the leading destination in the Americas. This status highlights the excellence of its event ecosystem, the quality of its infrastructure, its accessibility and its expertise in hosting major events.

Caesars Palace Welcomes a New Era of Opulence as it Unveils All-New Presidential Villas and Sky Villas

The two Colosseum Presidential Villas and 29 Octavius Sky Villas, designed by Peter Silling & Associates, will debut in time for the Las Vegas resort’s 60th anniversary

As Caesars Palace celebrates 60 years of grandeur, the iconic resort is ushering in a new era of luxury on the Las Vegas Strip. Caesars Palace is debuting two all-new Presidential Villas in the Colosseum Tower and 29 Sky Villas in the Octavius Tower.

“For meeting professionals who are searching for venues that elevate the experience beyond the expected, our new Presidential Villas and Sky Villas do exactly that. These spaces were designed not just for luxury, but for connection — whether that’s an executive board gathering on a private terrace overlooking the Strip or a VIP reception surrounded by worldclass design. As we celebrate 60 years of Caesars Palace, we’re proud to offer planners an entirely new tier of memorable, highimpact environments that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else in Las Vegas,” said Michael Massari, Chief Sales Officer, Caesars Entertainment.

This luxurious new room product follows the recent AAA Five Diamond designations awarded to THE VILLAS Caesars Palace and Restaurant Guy Savoy, reinforcing a consistent level of excellence across the resort. Additionally, Caesars Palace has transformed itself in recent years with many large-scale investments to the resort, including a complete overhaul of the resort’s main entrance and iconic crystal-cloaked casino dome, the addition of the Flavian Sky Suites, Celebrity Food Hall, Caspian’s Cocktails & Caviar and a renovation of Qua Bath & Spa and fitness center. Looking ahead, even more exciting changes are coming for guests.

Enhancements include:

  • OMNIA Dayclub – Tao Group Hospitality’s OMNIA Dayclub will command 46,000 square feet, featuring two expansive pools and performances from top global DJs – coming pool season 2026

  • Augustus Tower – nearly 1,000 suites will receive a full renovation designed by Peter Silling & Associates, setting a new standard for luxury in the market – coming 2026

  • VIP Check-in Lounge – a luxurious and reimagined check-in experience for the most discerning hospitality and gaming guests – coming 2026

  • Julius Tower – more than 500 rooms will receive a full renovation – coming 2027

  • Palace Tower – nearly 1,200 rooms will receive a full renovation – coming 2027

“For planners looking to surprise and delight their most important guests, the reimagined Villas at Caesars Palace open the door to extraordinary possibilities. The scale, privacy and artistry of these suites create a setting where intimate receptions, leadership retreats and premium incentive experiences feel effortless and unforgettable. These Villas reflect our ongoing commitment to invest in products that help planners deliver standout moments — the kind attendees talk about long after the program ends,” said Kelly Gleeson Smith, SVP of Sales, Caesars Entertainment.

Designed by Peter Silling & Associates, these suites blend European artistry with modern sophistication and are now available for the public to stay.

“The new Colosseum Presidential Villas and Octavius Sky Villas at Caesars Palace reflect our commitment to elevate the standard of luxury on the Las Vegas Strip,” said Sean McBurney, Chief Commercial Officer and Regional President of Caesars Entertainment. “As we commemorate our 60th anniversary, we’re proud to unveil these extraordinary spaces, meticulously designed with thoughtful details to deliver an unparalleled guest experience.”

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION | FULL HIGHLIGHTS:

Colosseum Presidential Villas

The new Colosseum Presidential Villas offer a bold take on contemporary luxury – architectural, atmospheric and distinctly elevated. The villas are a modern residential palace with a design that pays homage to heritage while presenting luxury with clarity, balance and intentionality.

The Presidential Villas take their name from the distinguished guests who have stayed in them. Over the years, presidents, world leaders, dignitaries and renowned celebrities have enjoyed these exclusive accommodations, which offer unmatched privacy, sophisticated design and dedicated butler service with personalized amenities.

With similar layouts, the 8,060-square-foot villa features brushed gold accents and soft lighting, while the 8,370-square-foot villa showcases bold lines and darker tones. The two villas can also connect, spanning more than 19,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space together. Each rooftop villa features a 1,700-square-foot terrace with sweeping views of the Las Vegas skyline.

Highlights of each villa include:

  • Private elevator through a grand vestibule inspired by Roman gardens

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic Las Vegas views

  • Custom chandeliers crafted from metal, glass and crystal that serve as art pieces

  • Double-sided glass fireplace, a centerpiece that seamlessly connects the living and entertainment areas

  • Entertainment lounge with a feature bar and a midnight marble billiard table

  • Formal dining room with mirror-lined ceilings and a 10-seat Calacatta Oro marble table

  • Outdoor terrace with a fluted travertine bar and dark timber dining ensemble – perfect for sunset gatherings with panoramic views

  • Primary bedroom that serves as a private sanctuary, featuring a spa-inspired bathroom and bespoke furnishings that create a deeply residential feel

  • The 1,350-square-foot, additional grand primary bedroom in between the two villas boasts curved floor-to-ceiling windows and a glamorous bathroom with a Calacatta marble tub and Nero Marquina marble floors

Octavius Sky Villas

Perched on the 68th and 69th floors of the Octavius Tower, the 29 new Sky Villas introduce a contemporary design with clean architectural lines, a refined palette and sweeping views of Las Vegas. Created to appeal to a new generation of high-end travelers, the Sky Villas have been reimagined to reflect how modern guests live, entertain and unwind in a space that feels current and unmistakably design-forward. Bold material contrasts, including marble and metal, velvet and leather and crystal and stone, soaring ceilings, sculptural lighting and curated art compositions also foster a feeling of airiness and exclusivity. Additional highlights include a TV feature wall in the living room and ribbed glass panels in the bathroom that enhance the marble. The Octavius Sky Villas showcase a new standard of modern luxury at Caesars Palace, offering a sophisticated residential experience shaped for today’s most discerning guests.

Kat Florence Hotel Unveils Daily La Mer Massages Included, Michelin-Origin 'Infinity Pâtisserie,' and a Nordic Winter Spa

The world-renowned luxury jeweller brings her signature precision and taste to a new era of bespoke "all-inclusive" where ultra-luxury amenities are included essentials in every stay

Elora, ON/CNW/The Kat Florence Hotel, restored and designed by seven-time world record–breaking rare gem jeweller Kat Florence, announces an expanded collection of ultra luxury, inclusive experience layers arriving this month.

Kat Florence, who grew up in Canada's famously beautiful village of Elora where her retreat resides, invested millions to personally restore the historic 1848 limestone building to its immaculate, present-day aura. "I approach a space the same way I approach a rare gemstone," says Florence. "Its history and composition tell you what it wants to become. My role is to honour that story and elevate it. Our elaborate guest gifts and amenities also directly reflect the space, as well as our ethos of being a true home away from home. We're thrilled to launch the next chapter of the hotel with even more signature, always included layers of wellness, nature, Michelin-level nourishment, and the most luxurious self-care elixir on earth (La Mer)."

Officially launching this month, the hotel debuts its private, guest-only Nordic Wellness Spa, a secluded plein air sanctuary within its hidden outdoor space. Steps from each suite, this intimate wellness garden features a hand-crafted cedar sauna, open-air hot pool, a restorative cold-plunge circuit for contrast therapy and a firepit lounge area; all supported by discreet, on-demand drink and snack service. Elemental, calming, and meticulously scaled, the spa is a sensorial extension of Florence's design philosophy: purity, balance, and craftsmanship at every turn.

To further complement their already much loved, daily 60 minute full-body massages for all staying guests, delivered in the privacy of their suite by expert in-house RMTs, Kat's daily ritual will soon be incorporating her personal favourite self-care product. From January, massages will be enhanced with a La Mer the renewal oil–infused face, neck, and décolleté finishing ritual (the La Mer elixir which famously retails for $395 per mini 30ml ounce bottle). The treatment also incorporates sound bath therapy and the Nordic practice of steam and ice, alternating warm and cool towel compresses to awaken the senses and create a harmony of temperature, grounding guests in the moment.

Adding to the hotel's sensory and wellness offerings, December 18 also marks the debut of the Kat Florence Hotel's new infinity-style Patisserie, a private, guest-only experience of daily edible art creations led by Chef Marc Collyer. The bakes and bonbons collection will be crafted using the most expensive ingredients on earth. While the collection will change every day, guests can expect delights like 'mille feuille of housemade caramelized puff pastry, green apple caviar and hazelnut creme,' 'Caramelized white chocolate eclair with Amarena cherry mousse and burnt orange & Champagne powder,' and signature house croissants Chef ferments for 3 full days prior to baking resulting in magnificently deepened flavours. Prior to collaborating with Kat, Marc spent 14 years honing his culinary distinction and imaginative flair at twice Michelin-starred Manor House in the British Cotswolds. Now innovating fine dolce delights at the Elora retreat, his guests are encouraged to visit in limitless tasting fashion throughout their stays (all at no charge; Chef's high design cakes, chocolates and pastries are included for guests). In addition, each morning Chef Marc hand-churns his own butter and fresh bakes pastries, breads and more, sending energizing creations to be personal concierge-delivered to each suite as part of the hotel's bespoke breakfast service. His patisserie program now forms an essential pillar of the property's culinary identity, blending technique, artistry, and an intimate, at-your-leisure approach to Michelin heights indulgence.

Reflecting Florence's celebrated eye for rarity and refinement, the hotel remains intentionally exclusive, welcoming a maximum of only 14 guests at any time and offering an unprecedented 2:1 staff-to-guest ratio; one of the highest in North America versus a luxury hotel average of 10:1. The result is a sanctuary of calm and privacy, with made-to-measure service for every stay.

Every booking at the Kat Florence Hotel includes her famous roster of signature high end gifts, services and experiences, all crafted to feel effortless and personal:

  • Daily, 60-minute full body massages in-suite including La Mer the renewal oil infused face, neck and decolletage ritual (Kat's personal favourite self-care ritual)
  • A multi-course Chef's Tasting Dinner on guests' arrival night, prepared and hosted by renowned Chef Anthony Bish in his Anthony's Private Restaurant reserved exclusively for hotel guests.
  • Suite-delivered Breakfast Baskets every morning with daily rotating pastries, breads, hand-churned butter and more presented by Chef Marc Collyer (formerly of twice Michelin-starred Manor House in the British Cotswolds)
  • A full bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne awaiting each guest upon arrival
  • Rolls Royce & Bentley chauffeur service around town as well as complimentary valet
  • Dedicated, personal concierge throughout your stay available for any request — from unpacking to private shopping to meal delivery to laundry service
  • Enjoyment of the new ultra-private outdoor Nordic Spa just steps from the suites in the garden including hand-crafted cedar sauna, hot-pool therapy, cold-pool circuit and on-demand drink service
  • Infinity visits to Kat Florence Hotel's private, guest-only Patisserie day to night to experience Chef Marc's daily edible art creations in unlimited fashion (at no cost)

The brand philosophy is one of complete ease with every detail anticipated, every moment curated.

Canadian Business Events Economic Impact Study Launched Today

Destination Canada and Meetings Mean Business Canada (MMBC)  announced the kickoff of the Canadian Business Events Economic Impact Study (CBEEIS), marking a significant milestone in the advancement of Canada’s business events industry by researching its value to the Canadian economy.

The CBEEIS will measure the total economic impact of business events in Canada, such as meetings, conferences, trade shows, and incentive travel. This includes direct spending to host events, indirect effects across the supply chain, and additional spending driven by earnings from event-related activities.

“The launch of the Canadian Business Events Economic Impact Study marks a transformative moment for our industry. For the first time, Destination Canada and our partners are establishing a unified, comprehensive baseline to accurately measure and advocate for the immense value business events bring to our national economy,” says Virginie De Visscher, Executive Director, Business Events, Destination Canada. “Our commitment to ongoing data-driven measurement ensures that Canada’s business events sector will be recognized, valued, and primed for sustainable growth well into the future.”

The study will also identify tourism activities generated by out-of-town business event attendees and highlight their role in unlocking the full economic potential of business events.

“This is more than just data – it’s about giving our industry the tools it needs to thrive,” said Minto Schneider, Chair, Meetings Mean Business Canada. “With the new study underway, our industry leaders and policymakers will have the insight they need to advocate for investment, support job creation, and unlock new opportunities in every region of the country.”

About the Canadian Business Events Economic Impact Study
The global business events industry is valued at approximately $1.6 trillion USD, with this figure representing its annual contribution to global GDP, according to the Events Industry Council and Oxford Economics. For Canada’s business events industry, the CBEEIS will deliver credible and actionable data to support planning and investment decisions nationwide, ensuring Canada remains a leader globally for sustainable business events.

The Conference Board of Canada has been selected to conduct the CBEEIS, following a comprehensive and competitive procurement process led by Destination Canada. As the chosen research partner, they bring extensive expertise in economic modelling, data analysis, and tourism industry research to deliver a landmark study that will, for the first time in over a decade, provide a modern and accurate national baseline of the economic contribution of business events across Canada.

“We are incredibly grateful to all of our partners who have helped bring this important project to life,” said John C. Dunn, Chair of the MMBC Research Committee. “Their commitment underscores how vital it is to clearly understand the true value business events bring to communities across Canada. As we move forward, I encourage more destinations and organizations to engage with this study and invest in this critical research – because the better our data, the stronger our ability to advocate, grow, and lead on the global stage.”

Next Steps
Now that a vendor has been selected, the project team will immediately move into the research design and stakeholder engagement phase. Key milestones include:

  • Q1 2026 Survey and tool development begins.

  • Q2 2026 National data collection across business event stakeholders.

  • Q3 2026: Analysis and modelling of economic contributions.

  • Q4 2026 / Early 2027: Final report and executive summary released via the Canadian Tourism Data Collective platform.

The final report will offer stakeholders – including destination marketing organizations, venues, and all levels of government – a robust evidence base to guide policy, funding, and future planning.

MMBC and Destination Canada will continue to work closely with partners, industry collaborators, and all levels of government to ensure the study reflects the breadth and diversity of Canada’s business events landscape.

AV-CANADA Expands in Ottawa

AV-CANADA is excited to announce our expansion in the Ottawa events industry as we move to a new office location. This growth will be spearheaded by Rita Plaskett, CMP, CMM, VEMM, who joins us as Vice President of Business Development for Ottawa and Eastern Canada. We opened our first Ottawa location in 2014 at the request of our clients and fellow meeting planners who sought a physical presence in the city. After servicing the area for over 30 years, we are grateful for the strong regard our clients and industry partners have for us, which has made this expansion both clear and necessary.

Our new, larger office will enable us to introduce advanced AV technologies, innovative green event solutions, and diverse accessibility options; all of which support our commitment to the events industry in Ottawa and its surrounding areas. We are also committed to offering more sustainable solutions for our clients, including energy-efficient LED lighting and eco-friendly equipment. Our Ottawa office has integrated energy-efficient LED lighting, and we are adopting further green measures into our operations.

We are thrilled to welcome Rita, who brings a wealth of experience. After a prominent career in meeting planning, Rita transitioned into the AV industry, becoming certified in Virtual Event Meeting Management. Her knowledge spans AV production, event planning, virtual and hybrid events, and hospitality. She has also held leadership roles, including Global Chair of the MPI Foundation and President of the MPI Toronto Chapter and CanSPEP.

Having collaborated with Rita for over 30 years, we value her client-first mindset, dedication to service, problem-solving skills and deep understanding of the needs of associations and event planners in delivering successful conferences, meetings, AGMs, tradeshows, and events, from inception to execution. We look forward to her leadership in our Eastern Canada division.

Fairmont Le Château Frontenac Becomes the Hotel with the Highest Number of Les Clefs d'Or Concierges in Canada

Québec City—Following the official awarding of Les Clefs d’Or recognition to three additional concierges last month, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac has reached a historic milestone, it now holds the highest number of Les Clefs d’Or members of any hotel in Canada. With these new distinctions, the property proudly counts ten of the finest hotel concierges in the world, each proudly wearing the iconic crossed golden keys—the international symbol of excellence and unwavering dedication to guest service. This recognition highlights the essential work of our concierge team, who guide, advise and support our guests daily, uncovering the best the city has to offer and curating truly memorable experiences.

“We are extremely proud that our concierge team is recognized among the best in the world. Every day, they bring their expertise and passion to our guests, ensuring each stay at the Château is unforgettable. Congratulations—and above all, thank you—to our entire Les Clefs d’Or team between our concierge desks: Jason Turpin, Guillaume Giordano, Eric Sabetta, Catherine Leblanc, Iris Germain, Stéphanie Guay, Diane Gauthier, Maleni Rendon Chavez, Christine Gingras and Francis Bélanger,” says Simon Bovoli, Director of Luxury Experience & Concierge Services.

LES CLEFS D’OR – THE ELITE OF CONCIERGE SERVICE

Les Clefs d’Or is a prestigious international association of professional hotel concierges, with nearly 4,000 members across more than 80 countries and 530 destinations. Instantly recognizable by the crossed golden keys worn on their lapels, these concierges form an elite worldwide network committed to continuous professional development and exceptional guest service. Officially founded in France in 1952, with origins dating back to 1929, the organization is built on its core motto: service through friendship. Serving more than 100 million travelers annually, Les Clefs d’Or members handle requests ranging from the everyday to the truly extraordinary, relying on unparalleled local expertise and the strength of their global network. From Berlin to New York, Paris to Tokyo, no one knows the world—or delivers service with such inspired dedication—quite like Les Clefs d’Or concierges.

A SELECTION PROCESS AS DEMANDING AS ITS PRESTIGE

Becoming a Les Clefs d’Or member marks the culmination of an exceptionally rigorous journey. To qualify for the golden keys, candidates must have at least five years of hospitality experience, with a minimum of two specifically as a concierge, and must demonstrate impeccable professionalism. Before being admitted to the official examination, their abilities are tested through six mystery evaluations conducted over a two to three months period by their regional peers. This phase assesses, in real service conditions, the finesse, precision and excellence of their daily guest interactions. Candidates then advance to the final stage: an extensive, month-long practical examination. They must design a detailed, cross-Canada itinerary featuring truly exclusive experiences made possible through their professional relationships across the country. This in-depth evaluation encompasses a wide range of skills, including ethical knowledge, foreign language proficiency, and foundational sommelier principles, and concludes with an oral presentation before established members. Upon successful completion, the candidate’s file is reviewed by the regional council, then by the national council, which formally confirms their admission into this international fraternity built on excellence, trust and mentorship.

Aeromexico Celebrates 15 Years Connecting Mexico and Canada

A decade of flights to Toronto and Vancouver, and 15 years to Montreal

Mexico City—Aeromexico celebrates three important milestones in its operations to Canada: 15 years of flying to Montreal, as well as 10 years of connecting with Toronto and Vancouver. These destinations represent not only key routes for air connectivity between the two countries, but also a cultural, tourist, and economic bridge that has grown steadily for more than a decade.

Over the past 15 years, the airline has connected Canada with Mexico through more than 30,000 flights.

So far in 2025, Aeromexico has carried more than 325,000 passengers, meanwhile, between December and March, the airline will operate more than 110 monthly flights connecting the two countries, using 737 MAX, the most efficient aircraft models.

“Canada has long been a key destination for Aeromexico. Commemorating these anniversaries reaffirms our dedication to connectivity, tourism, and the close relationship between our countries," said Pepe Zapata, Vice President of Sales for Canada, United States, and Latin America. "We are committed to providing passengers with the highest quality onboard experience, enhanced by advanced technology and modern aircraft like the Boeing 737 MAX, which delivers superior comfort and efficiency."

From Canadian airports, local representatives also highlighted the collaboration and results of this long-term relationship:

“ADM Aéroports de Montréal has had the pleasure of playing host to Aeroméxico, a national airline with an extensive network, at YUL for 15 years now. With its flights to the Mexican capital, our long-standing airline partner gives travellers access to magnificent landscapes, historic neighbourhoods and a rich culinary heritage, and I’d like to thank them for enhancing the offerings of our international airport,” said Karl Brochu, Vice President, Airport Operations and Air Services Development at ADM. “Thanks to this connection, companies have found new growth opportunities, tourists have discovered a fascinating new destination, and friends and families have been brought closer together. Congratulations to Aeromexico, and here’s to many more years of celebration!”

“Aeromexico has played a significant role in connecting Mexico to Vancouver, and Canada, since it began operating at YVR in 2015,” said Andy Margolis, Vice President, Operations and Chief Operations Officer at Vancouver International Airport. “The airline’s service, including its direct flights to Mexico City, is integral to fostering travel, trade and tourism between our two countries and beyond into Latin America. This is a significant milestone in its commitment to connecting Vancouver, and we look forward to continued growth ahead.”

“We wish to congratulate Aeroméxico on a decade of partnership at Toronto Pearson. As Mexico’s flagship carrier, Aeroméxico’s daily round-trip flights between Mexico City and Toronto help connect travellers to these two vibrant cities,” said Kurush Minocher, Chief Commercial Officer, Toronto Pearson. “This soaring achievement underscores the airline’s dedication to providing seamless travel and strengthening the important ties between Canada and Mexico.”

With 74 international routes and 55 within Mexico, Aeromexico continues to expand its network, focusing on innovation, connectivity, and service. Among its main differentiators are its Premier Cabin with hot meals included, the best in-flight entertainment, personal screens, free messaging during the flight, Bluetooth for connecting wireless headphones, and much more.

Aeromexico celebrates this milestone with the firm commitment of flying higher.

Claramount Club Opens its Doors in Prince Edward County

Historic waterfront estate honours its heritage with contemporary wellness-focused upgrade

Picton, OntarioClaramount Club, Prince Edward County’s newly restored landmark hotel and club, is now open and accepting reservations. Its debut arrives at a pivotal moment: Prince Edward County has just been named one of Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Best Places to Go, affirming its transformation from a quiet rural enclave into one of Canada’s most coveted destinations for food, wine, culture, and elevated accommodations, and states that “The region is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new hotel, Claramount Club.”

With its majestic estate setting, reimagined culinary offerings including two new restaurant concepts, rich history, and sweeping lake views, the storied yellow mansion known for generations as ‘The Claramount’ is poised to become a flagship destination for travellers seeking authenticity, refinement, and a deep sense of place. Positioned at the heart of Picton’s waterfront, and supported by decades of local stewardship, Claramount Club is the evolution of this beloved property.

Set on six acres overlooking Picton Harbour, the waterfront Claramount estate was originally built in 1904 for Clara and Edward M. Young, designed by Kingston, Ontario architect William Newlands. The Georgian Colonial mansion, named for Clara, daughter of Wellington Boulter, pioneer of Canada’s canning industry, has lived many lives: a family estate, a guesthouse for post-war travellers, and later, the award-winning Claramount Inn & Spa.

Today, after an extensive restoration and thoughtful expansion, the property enters its next chapter. The transformation has been years in the making: construction began in 2019, spanning the mansion’s careful revival, the addition of a new building with lakeside accommodations, and the gentle restoration of two guest houses including the nearly two century-old Taylor House, once at risk of being demolished before being lovingly moved onto the Claramount property.

A newly extended 500-foot boardwalk along Picton Harbour now offers a direct, scenic connection to the marina and the heart of downtown Picton’s Main Street, just a short, beautiful stroll along the waterfront. Future moorings and finger docks for up to 60 slips, which can be leased through the Town of Picton, will allow easy access for recreational boaters.

The interior design, led by Studio Garrah, combines heritage architecture with modern wellness-focused comfort, offering guests a thoughtfully curated,’ big-city-meets-county’ aesthetic experience. The property was crafted to honour the building’s history while introducing bold, joyful elements that reflect ‘The County’s’ vibrant and eclectic personality. The atmosphere feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. Local artwork, antiques, and many custom furniture pieces anchor the rooms in place and story, while rich textiles, natural stone, and scaled patterns bring depth and movement. Throughout the hotel, guests will find unexpected touches, stripes in varying scales, bold colour palettes, and unique pieces by local creatives, each adding texture and soul to the hotel’s shared spaces.

The interiors combine the warmth of walnut wood, natural stone, mostly colourful marble and quartzites, aged metals, and tactile textiles with a curated mix of stripes, tartans, plaids, and dynamic artwork. This layered approach allows vintage architectural elements to shine while inviting colour, comfort, and contemporary character into each room. From subtle contrasts to pattern-on-pattern moments, the design balances history with a lively spirit, resulting in a property that feels timeless yet full of energy.

Within its beautifully crafted interiors, the hotel features a permanent collection of artwork by local artists in both guestrooms and common spaces, including a custom mural spanning the hotel’s two-storey atrium staircase by county muralist Crissy Poitras. A rotating collection of Canadian art, featuring many Prince Edward County-based artists, is showcased in two galleries. Weekly painting classes and weekend art retreats are planned for 2026, in addition to other exciting year-round cultural programming that highlights local talent and enriches every stay with a sense of fun, creativity and connection to the community.

Its range of luxurious, historically informed guestrooms crafted for modern travellers include:

  • Heritage Suites - Located within the original main house of the Claramount mansion, each of the five suites is unique in character, blending historic details with modern comforts. High ceilings, antique touches, and curated artwork punctuate the spaces. Featuring four one-bedroom king guest suites and one two-bedroom suite, one king, and one with twin bunk beds, perfect for a family stay.
  • Lakeside Rooms - Three newly constructed single-storey buildings offering 12 king-guestroom accommodations, featuring balconies with pristine lakeside views. The heritage suite experience is reinterpreted on a more intimate scale offering guests a playful and charming retreat.
  • Taylor House - Dating back to the 1830s, the historic Taylor House, originally home to Dr. Earl Taylor, a prominent county surgeon, was painstakingly moved onto the Claramount property. This home features four bedrooms, accommodating up to eight guests, perfect for small groups, extended stays and family escapes. The home also includes a fully equipped kitchen, two inviting living areas with fireplaces, and a spacious dining table perfect for shared meals.
  • Carriage House - Originally the carriage house for the mansion, this charming home was also thoughtfully relocated on the property and lovingly restored. This quaint and inviting private cottage offers two separate accessible king guest rooms, and a suite with a queen bed and two cozy twin beds.

Guests will also enjoy a robust lineup of amenities:

  • Tennis court
  • Fully equipped gym with fitness and personal training by Coach-Haus
  • Large, heated indoor swimming pool
  • Outdoor lounge and relaxation area – couches and loungers with lake view
  • Spacious change rooms with showers and lockers
  • Outdoor lakeside fire pits
  • Harbourfront boardwalk access
  • Dedicated boardroom / meeting space
  • 24-hour front desk with full concierge services
  • Complimentary WiFi throughout the property
  • In-room takeaway service from The Foundry
  • Lobby boutique

THE FOUNDRY is Claramount Club’s laid-back dining venue, offering thoughtful and elevated updates to pub classics, turning out bold, and memorable dishes. Offering fare crafted entirely from scratch using seasonally driven, locally sourced ingredients, the restaurant is open daily for breakfast and dinner, and brunch on weekends. A warm, welcoming space with seating for 90 indoors and 70 outdoors, The Foundry spans three interior rooms, including a lounge, main dining room, and bar, plus two outdoor terraces with views of the Picton Harbour. Live music shapes the energy of the restaurant, with weekly evening performances that invite guests to linger, dance, or relax on the covered porch or open-air patio.

Claramount Club’s signature fine dining restaurant, Delphine, will open in Spring 2026 with an elevated, chef-driven culinary experience inspired by the region’s terroir, and its inspiring agricultural and lakeside bounty.

Guests can also enjoy breakfast smoothies, coffee and a selection of pastries from locally loved bakery PECish Baking Co.’s newest location, PECish EXPRESS, situated on the property’s first floor.

Ottawa accelerates IEEE and engineering conference momentum, driven by G7 capital advantages and a deep tech ecosystem

Organisers choose Canada’s capital for proximity to decision makers, regulators and world class technology

Ottawa is reporting strong progress in the IEEE and wider engineering sector, with multiple competitive bid wins and a growing pipeline of technical congresses. Organisers consistently highlight Ottawa’s position as Canada’s capital, access to national policy makers and the strength of its technology industry as key reasons to choose the city.

A major highlight for this year was the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and the North American Radio Science Meeting, which took place in July, attended by more than 1,500 delegates. Engagement to secure the event began as early as IEEE Convene in 2019, and it was supported by destination funding.

Looking further ahead, the International District Energy Association Annual Conference and Tradeshow will come to Ottawa in 2026. The bid secured federal ICAF (International Convention Attraction Fund) support and the organisers selected Ottawa specifically for its strengths in energy technology and infrastructure, as well as the benefits of meeting in a G7 capital close to decision makers.

Recent years have also seen Ottawa host major engineering meetings including the IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference in 2024, the International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors in 2024 and IEEE Sections Congress in 2023.

“Choosing Ottawa gives technical societies direct access to Canada’s capital, national regulators and industry leaders, all within a compact downtown supported by an award-winning convention centre and trusted partners,” said Stephanie Seguin, Vice President, Business & Major Events, Ottawa Tourism. “Our community understands complex technical programmes. We help organisers connect with the right experts, testbeds and companies, so delegates leave with new knowledge and real-world collaborations.”

Ottawa’s conference proposition is reinforced by a vibrant technology economy. The city is home to more than 1,800 knowledge-based businesses and has been recognised for one of the highest concentrations of tech talent among major North American markets. Global leaders such as Nokia, Ford, Ericsson, Ciena and IBM operate alongside home-grown success stories including Shopify, Kinaxis, Ross Video, Fullscript and Mitel, with strong support from Invest Ottawa for growth, expansion and talent.

Sonya Shorey, President and CEO of Invest Ottawa & Area XO added, “Ottawa’s collaborative community, entrepreneurial energy and innovation infrastructure create the conditions for world class technical events to thrive. When organisers come to Ottawa, they tap into an ecosystem that accelerates ideas, partnerships and impact.”

A New Era of Coastal Grandeur: The Algonquin Resort Embarks on Landmark Transformation

A multi-million dollar reimagination ushers Canada's most historic seaside resort into its next chapter of timeless luxury.

St. Andrews by-the-Sea, NB/CNW/Canada's most storied coastal resort has entered a bold new chapter. InnVest Hotels proudly announces a multi-million dollar reimagination of The Algonquin Resort St. Andrews by-the-Sea, Autograph Collection, ushering in a new era that blends historic East Coast charm with modern sophistication. This transformation marks a once-in-a-generation investment to the legacy of one of New Brunswick's most treasured landmarks. As part of this transformation, the resort is redefining itself as a premier year-round destination, with enhanced experiences and the same exceptional service guests have come to expect.

At the helm is newly appointed General Manager Cole Sheridan who brings over 15 years of hospitality leadership, having held key positions at renowned properties across Canada. Known for his guest-centric approach and dedication to team culture, Sheridan is passionate about creating transformative travel experiences that honour local heritage while embracing innovation. His appointment marks an exciting new era for The Algonquin Resort, as it reinvents itself as the premier East Coast destination year-round.

"As stewards of this extraordinary property, we are honoured to lead The Algonquin Resort into its next chapter while preserving the spirit that has defined it for generations," says Sheridan. "This transformation is a celebration of place, history, and a coastal lifestyle that's both timeless and refined."

History with a New Heartbeat

Perched on the shores of Passamaquoddy Bay in the picturesque town of St. Andrews by-the-Sea, the historic resort has welcomed guests since 1889. Formerly a Canadian Pacific Railway resort, it quickly became a seaside retreat that was famed for its saltwater baths and fresh Bay of Fundy air. The resort's iconic Tudor-style architecture, storied royal and presidential visits and rich heritage, including hosting virtually every prime minister since Confederation, have secured its place among Canada's most treasured grand hotels. Spanning over 220 acres, the beloved resort features an extraordinary 72-par, award-winning seaside golf course recently ranked number 13 in Canada by SCOREgolf 2025, as well as over 20,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space for large groups, four food & beverage outlets, a full-service spa, indoor and outdoor pool, and fitness centre.

Today, the resort enters a bold new era. Set for completion in mid-2027, upcoming enhancements will include the revitalization of its 233 guestrooms, renewed public spaces including the lobby and dining venues, and the debut of Usva by-the-Sea, a highly anticipated Nordic thermal spa. Designed to elevate the resort's year-round appeal, the spa will offer an immersive wellness experience, positioning the resort as a premier wellness destination on Canada's East Coast.

"This revitalization is not just about refreshing a historic property,  it's about redefining the guest experience year round," says Lydia Chen, President & CEO of InnVest Hotels. "We're committed to honouring The Algonquin Resort's storied past while creating a modern destination that invites guests to relax, recharge, and return 365 days a year."

Introducing Usva by-the-Sea

In collaboration with The Algonquin Resort, Usva Spa is expanding its brand with the launch of Usva by-the-Sea, opening Spring 2026. This new Nordic spa overlooks the legendary healing waters of Passamaquoddy Bay, offering guests an immersive wellness journey inspired by Scandinavian thermal traditions. Designed to promote relaxation, rejuvenation, and holistic well-being, the spa will feature signature thermal experiences, outdoor warm and cold plunge pools, Finnish sauna, steam sauna, and serene relaxation lounges. Founder Geneviève Nolet emphasizes, "We're excited to bring the Usva experience to the charming and historic community of St. Andrews. This project marks an important milestone in our company's growth and a meaningful contribution to the region's tourism development."

"This partnership with Usva brings a world-class spa experience to our guests," says Lydia Chen. "Usva by-the-Sea will complement our resort's legacy and help position The Algonquin Resort as a leading wellness destination."

Redesigning History: A Coastal Legacy Reimagined

Honouring 135 years of heritage, the resort's new interior redesign unveils coastal luxury for a new era. The creative direction of the redesign was led by renowned Canadian design agency mackaywong, whose co-founder Gordon MacKay brought a deeply personal perspective to the project. "I grew up dreaming of staying in this castle by the sea," says MacKay. "It was incredibly important to us that we respect the cultural and natural history of The Algonquin Resort while crafting something that feels fresh, serene, and undeniably coastal." Inspired by the property's maritime heritage and rich local stories, the design propels the resort into its next era by blending timeless tradition with modern sophistication.

These guestrooms mark the most significant evolution in the property's storied history. Curated as calm, residential-style retreats, they echo the charm of a refined coastal beach estate. Each room features floors reminiscent of original heritage oakwood, lending warmth and character, complemented by soft blue tones woven throughout the design, inspired by the cool, crisp waters of the Passamaquoddy Bay and the expansive coastal skies.

The refreshed design of The Algonquin Resort will blend timeless elegance with a strong sense of place, offering guests a warm and memorable arrival experience. Highlights include elevated public spaces and reimagined dining venues that pay subtle tribute to local heritage, traditions, and community. With a focus on storytelling, craftsmanship, and regional influence, the redesign sets the stage for an exciting new chapter at this iconic resort.
